La Ligue nord-américaine de basket (NBA) a inauguré jeudi à Thiès, au Sénégal, son premier centre de formation sur le continent africain, a-t-elle annoncé.

La première promotion est composée de douze joueurs sélectionnés lors de tests réalisés en décembre et la semaine dernière. De nouvelles installations, construites en collaboration avec l’ONG américaine Seed-Project, qui a notamment formé l’international sénégalais de Minnesota Gorgui Dieng, seront inaugurées à Saly (Sénégal) à l’automne 2017.« Ce jour est important pour l’essor du basket en Afrique », a expliqué le vice-président de NBA Afrique, chargé du développement, Amadou Gallo Fall.

Chine, Inde, Australie
« Notre centre de formation va offrir aux étudiants un entraînement de qualité internationale et une éducation qui vont leur permettre se réaliser sur les terrains et dans la vie », a-t-il ajouté.

La NBA a déjà lancé trois centres de formation, ou académies, en Chine (Hangzhou, Jinan, Urumqi), une en Inde et une en Australie.
